Sand Art Necklace DIY
My kids said this project made them think of a beautiful desert captured in a jar. I love that analogy, and I feel the same way. The colors, the layers, and, the miniature nature of this project really does feel like we have captured a bit of beauty to take along with us in our daily lives.
These little necklaces make fabulous gifts for teachers and family member. They also make for great birthday party projects for tweens and teens. This is a project your younger artists will need some assistance with, but it's a great one to engage the whole family in.
I have included all the supplies you will need to craft this project at home. I have included affiliate links below to make supply shopping a bit easier, and your purchases support help keep these art and creativity projects coming your way-Thank YOU!
To make this project you will need:
Plastic or Silverware spoons
Optional: Leather Tassels
Start by screwing in one of the brass screw eyes into your cork. You may want to secure it was a dab of the Elmer's clear glue, or use a hot glue gun. If you are using your own handmade sand for this project follow the instructions in this post, others pull out that mini funnel and let's get layering!
Place your funnel into your mini jar and begin to pour in small portions of your sand into the jar. Change colors of sand when your current layer reaches the height and width inside your jar that you desire. For younger children they will need a grownup to help them tap the sand through the funnel.
Continue layering until you have filled your your jar full of sand up to the base of the lip of the jar. Don't overfill or you won't be able to fit your cork on. Add a little of your clear glue to the base of your cork before pressing the cork into the top of the jar to seal the jar shut.
Add a jump ring to the screw eye you added to your cork earlier. You may need to leave the jump ring open so you can easily place your jar onto your chain . Close the jump ring one the jar and the chain are placed inside of it.
To Add a tassel add a jump ring onto the top of your tassel. Leave the jump ring open and either attach it directly to the chain, or attach it to your sand art jar.
And voila! You now have a beautiful sand art necklace ready for gifting.
