We still have two weeks of summer and a few more summer adventures planned, but it's never too early to get things planned for the new season!🌿 . . We are so grateful to be enjoying two learning curriculums for my youngest to help fill in this time between the end of summer and the start of school.🌿 . . Playing with the beautiful letter cards from @kindergartentoolkit and pairing those with a few of the very thoughtful activities from @thishumblehive color curriculum. We will share more as we work with these two wonderful resources.πŸ‚ . . Plus, do you wonder about how to set up an invitation to create for your children? We may just be making simple concoctions out of water, food coloring, glitter, and shaved chalk, but you would think this was a top secret laboratory where the big troubles of the world are being solved. And...maybe... that is what's going here.
✨✨✨I've been feeling uneasy. Uncertain. Worried. Hesitant. Fearful. Let's see...how about, simply and absolutely saddened by the state of the world right now? That about sums it up.✨✨✨ . . I try to always choose a positive outlook, and catch myself when I begin to spiral into that never ending spiral of dread and despair. However, lately it's been harder. And with good reason.✨✨✨ . . But, art. Art always brings me back from those edges of a precipice that are as dark as ink and deeper than oceans. A place that is easy to get lost in.✨✨✨ . . But, art. Art reminds me there is hope. Hope is never ending, it is the antidote, and is the antithesis to despair.✨✨✨ . . As we created love potions, and growth potions, and friendship potions, and peace potions today I realized that children are pure HOPE. ✨✨✨ . . So spread the loving magic to all those children in your lives. They are our future, and our hope. ✨✨✨

This is a repost from @nationalparkalliance ・・・ Notice & Advisory - Read & SHARE - This is a two-part post so please bear with us as we explain both parts: 1) It is with great sadness that we announce that the National Park Service granted an assembly permit for a White Nationalist "Patriot Prayer" on August 26th at San Francisco's iconic Crissy Field. We are saddened that our national parks have become a platform for this hate group. While some will join in under the guise of "white nationalism" there definitely will be some self proclaimed Nazis joining in. β–ͺ️β–ͺ️β–ͺ️β–ͺ️ In light of the current events in Charlottesville Virginia, anti-Nazi organizers have planned a positive counterpoint to this hateful movement. The current counter protest offers a positive alternative which is to bring music and show up to dance around the Nazis. We discourage people from violently engaging with any group, especially one whose mission it is to sow fear and anger. Don't fall into that trap. β–ͺ️β–ͺ️β–ͺ️β–ͺ️ 2) The second point involves another trap. An online trap. For those of you who actively use Facebook to engage on social media issues, we want to alert everyone that one tactic that is being abused is the intentional posting of controversial remarks in order to get replies. What people need to realize is that when they reply to a hateful or inflammatory remark they help boost that hateful comment to the top. Trolls are CONSTANTLY hijacking conversations using this tactic. Telling them off does little to no good. These people thrive on chaos and anger so remember that when you really feel like giving someone a piece of your mind online. All you are doing is helping promote their viewpoint… At least until Facebook changes the way they operate which is to post the most "engaging" comments at the top. By all means, start conversations with different viewpoints, but not the trolls. Take heed and spread the word. If you must respond to something hateful or offensive, do so in a separate comment. Remember, it's not enough to have good intentions. We must also have good actions. #nationalparkalliance #crissyfield
A R T . A N Y W H E R E . . . We brought along art supplies to the park yesterday to do after we had biked and eaten lunch. There's nothing like using the current view around you as inspiration. . . Have you tried blind contour drawing? No? We had a blast staring at natural surroundings and drawing what we saw without looking at the paper...well, okay, I did, but it made me think how much fun that would be to include in an art session. . . So, next time you head to the park grab some paints and paper and have fun creating in an unexpected place.
✨Morning Time✨ . . I always thought I was not a morning person. In fact, I think I liked that I could wear that statement as a badge of honor...for some reason. πŸ“š . . However, as of late I realized that statement is no longer true, and hasn't been true for many years. I really like mornings. It's also becoming my favorite time of day with my kids too.πŸ“š . . Lately we've been working on painting mini books during the morning hours. We are transforming the little books into morning verses, poems, and affirmations for the day. πŸ“š . . It's surprising to see the positive difference it has made in our morning routines. It hasn't stopped us from running late, or any such miracle as that, but it has added a bit of grounding calm to our morning routines. πŸ“š . . So, I would love to know, do you have a favorite verse, or poem, or positive words you like to start your day off with?πŸ“š
Layering, and layering, and layering. That's the name of the game on day one of "Mama Art Day Camp."🎨 . . Have you all done any fun projects this summer we should give a go before the school season really hits? 🎨 . . We are experimenting with painting on wood, adding. Wax layer, and then hammering nails into our works of art. 🎨
I think empathy is always a good idea. It humanizes what is difficult to understand, clears the air for a moment, and lends to clarity of action. Coming from a place of thoughtful consideration tempers our instant emotional reactions and allows us to fully process situations as a whole. Giving us the time to take something in. Feel it fully. Understand it. Send it through the lens of our values. And, make decisions not in haste, but out of love and understanding. This may all sound fluffy, or perhaps even ignorant to some, but I find even when faced with a situation full of hate there is still room for empathy, and it is through empathy we can help children (and adults) make choices about how to solve problems out of care and concern for one another. Take care of each other today, and always. ❀️
My home is a #workinprogress and, well, I am a work in progress too. Aren't we all, though?🌈 . . It's the process that matters, right? So, here we are in the process of shifting, organizing, and letting certain things be what they will be. Especially, when it comes to my home things are always changing.πŸ’› . . This room has morphed so many times, and now that we allow my youngest to do some of her own decorating this space changes even more. The recent addition of lots of pinks and purples make me smile, especially when I am told: ✨ . . "These aren't my favorite colors because I'm a girl, but because they are the colors of the flowers the snails live under" 😜😳🀣🐌❀️ . . Ha, ha, ha, ha! Well, one thing never changes...this kid and her love for snails. Can a snail be a spirit animal? So, next on the agenda...more snail art. 🐌
